I was shocked during my last visit to the county landfill to see a notice that any unsorted worthless recyclables would subject the entire load to a 30% surcharge, due to Colorado state law.
Really?
Why would our elected officials and their administrators meekly roll over and submit to this tyranny?
Could it be that it presents a new revenue opportunity, which could be used to fund such things as a fancy new convention center, or perhaps fiber to every home, or broadband to every rooftop, or something really cool and fast?
I propose that we declare Montezuma County a waste disposal sanctuary, exempt from any state or federal rules.
Bring us your waste in any form, and we’ll accept it. We could adopt “Montezuma Dumps” as our motto.
