Thank you, Newt Gingrich

What a joke the Republican Party has become. Newt Gingrich blamed the problem on a Republican culture that rewards obstruction and negativity instead of innovation and “being positive.” “... (A)s long as we are negative and as long as we are vicious and as long as we can tear down our opponent, we don’t have to learn anything ... this is a very deep problem.” (Gingrich at the opening session of the RNC)

Disregarding reason is nothing new for either political party, but it seems the GOP has embraced stupidity. Immigration, fair taxation, women’s rights, sexual orientation, military spending, health care, the justice system — hot topics the Republicans aren’t really thinking about because it is unnecessary to think when all you do is wait for the president to speak, and then be against it. Conservatives must embrace moderate social change or become irrelevant.

Want to get rid of abortion rights? Won’t happen. Want homosexuality to be illegal? Won’t happen. Want religious prayer in our public schools? Won’t happen. Want to lower taxes on the wealthiest members of our society? Can’t happen. Republicans and Democrats broke the bank before President Obama was elected. Yeah, elected — not a coup. Will of the people and all, meaning “we the people” think Barack Obama is an American president and not some sneak from Kenya. Those labeling him “other” are hurting conservatives’ chances of electability come 2016.

Where the heck are the statesmen on the right? I’ll tell you: out to lunch, hoarding guns and vilifying the poor. Poor people vote, by the way, and some of them aren’t taking handouts ... whatever fools mean by that. Corporations get tax breaks too — and they’re people right? The party of climate change deniers, NoBama stickers and rebel flags? Please. I’m watching the party of stupid just getting dumber. GOP, buy a neuron, work toward fixing what government broke, and think whether America should have an election in 2016 or just swear Hillary in. Onward through the fog and God bless America.
