A Celebration of Life service will be held for longtime Mancos resident Don Jordan at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Mancos VFW.

Don was born on Feb. 18, 1931, the son of William Boyd Jordan and Lena Fern (Winegar) Jordan Nipper. He passed away on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

Surviving Don are his children, Karen (Jordan) Welch and husband, Mike of Cortez, Colo.; Mike Jordan and his wife, Brandy of Aztec, N.M.; Cindi (Jordan) Kissel and husband, Rick of Globe, Ariz.; and Pat Jordan and his wife, Theresa of Falcon, Colo.; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Jordan, David Nipper and Stephen Nipper; three sisters, Joanne Smith, Dorothy Rolland and Jessie Clifford; and many friends throughout the Mancos Valley.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; step-brothers and sisters (five in all); three wives, Lottie Draper, Willa Holland and Ruth Jordan; two daughters, Terry (Jordan) Draper and Mary Jordan; grandchildren, John Michael Barrett and Baby Holly Barrett; and one great-granddaughter.

"Dad touched so many lives with his acts of kindness. He opened his home to those he trusted and cherished. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing with his kids and grandkids and working the land he loved. Dad could gentle even the wildest horse and was working with an Appaloosa at the time of his death. He loved tending his vegetable garden and still canned vegetables and fruit to enjoy during those long winter months. Dad was an avid reader, a gift he shared with his children. We love you and will miss you, daddy. We are all better for having known you."

Don served in the Korean War and was a double charter member of the Mancos V.F.W. #5231, serving as Commander.

Cremation has taken place per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Montezuma or the Mancos VFW.

Arrangements are being made through Ertel Funeral Home. For further information or to send condolences, log on to www.ertelfuneralhome.com and click on the obituary section.
