Sunflower Troupe seeks local playwrights for festival

The Sunflower Troupe at the Sunflower Theatre has announced its inaugural “Sunflower Shorts: A 10-Minute Play Festival” for 2020.

Original plays submitted by local playwrights and selected by a panel of judges will be performed in an series of evenings of 10-minute short plays. Performed pieces will also compete for People’s Choice recognition.

To be eligible to enter the festival, authors and collaborators must be residents of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico or Utah.

The 2020 festival has no theme limits, and the only genres not eligible are musicals and children’s theater. The submission deadline is Jan. 15, 2020.

Eight plays will be chosen by a panel of judges by Feb. 15, 2020, for production in June 26, 27 and 28. Recognition will be awarded to the most popular play, which will be determined by audience vote at each performance. The festival winner will be announced on KSJD radio (www.ksjd.org) and social media.
