Any registered voter in Mancos could potentially become the next town trustee in Mancos after the recent resignation of Reneata Collins.
Collins was elected to serve a four-year term as a town trustee in April 2012. She recently resigned, telling the Mancos Times she needed to spend more time focusing on her business. She owns and operates a salon, the Bee Hive, on Grand Ave.
"To fill a vacancy due to death, removal or resignation, the board solicits letters of interest and then appoints someone to carry out the term," said Town Administrator Andrea Phillips. "If no letters are received, then we hold a special election."
Of the town's 17 meetings in the first half of 2013, Collins has attendance most.
She did miss a meeting in January and another in April, but the last trustee meeting Collins attended was held on May 22. Collins' term expires in 2016.
All eligible registered electors are encouraged to apply. Letters of interest must be received by 3 p.m. August 5.
