I hope Sheriff Spruell will consider leaving office so he can continue his right wing ideology in the private sector. He is the most incompetent sheriff I have ever witnessed. No, I take that back, the sheriff in Lander, Wyo., was taking coke out of the evidence room and overdosed on it on it. Spurell is the second most incompetent sheriff I have ever seen.
Let’s recap. He threatens Forest Service employees with arrest if they do their jobs protecting public lands. He fires a deputy for violent homophobic remarks (makes you think, how did this person get hired and carry a gun?). He decides he doesn’t like the gun laws our elected officials passed into law, so he won’t enforce them. Does that mean if I don’t like a law I don’t have to abide by it? He meets with a group of “good old boy” sheriffs to plot against our elected state government. He can’t even do a background check on persons he hires.
These people have the power to arrest you and put you in jail. They carry guns. They have immense power that can effect your life. I am sure the good conservatives of Montezuma stand behind him and his incompetence, for his stand on gun laws, which as a sheriff, a private citizen, he should keep his opinions to himself. Where are the 9/12ers and tea partiers who tried to and wasted our money to impeach our city council members? It’s a different story when it’s one of your own who make the news.
I do not trust Spruell and have very low confidence in his department. I hope his deputies believe in their job to protect and serve and that is their only job.
When you ask why Montezuma County is one of the most depressed counties in the state, just look at the sheriff’s department and our backward county commissioners, who would bring us back to the 18th century.
I hope the next election you vote for who will do the best job for the county and our country, not their political party.
