Local favorite Last Nickel will churn out classic and original bluegrass music at the Escalante Days music festival Aug. 10 in Dolores.
The dance party gets going after the sun sets at the Escalante Days music festival.

A big draw for Escalante Days and Nights in Dolores Aug. 10 is the music festival that takes place on the outdoor stages of the downtown Dolores River Brewery.

Eight local bands will perform a variety of musical styles on Saturday from 2 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $10.

They bands, in order of appearance, are The Lindells at 2 p.m., Genuine Cowhide at 3:45 p.m., Last Nickel at 5:30 p.m., Carute Roma at 7:15 p.m., Little Brother at 9 p.m., and The Crags at 10:45 p.m. Troubadour Donny Johnson and bluesman Alex Westfall also will perform, and local comedian Jill Carlson will introduce the bands.

The audience will hear a mix of rock, country-western and world music, said producer Aaron Lemay, of Inner Orbit Sound Systems.

Little Brother is amping up the funkadelic groove with a new bass player, and the Crags will perform songs off their new CD. Texas-bred Westfall will perform acoustic Delta Blues.

“We’re really proud to showcase our great local bands, many of whom have been with us since we started the music festival seven years ago,” Lemay said.

Every ticket holder will be entered into a drawing for a three-night microcamper excursion offered by High Desert Life Outdoor & Exchange, of Cortez.

Performances will alternate between two stages so there is no break in the music.
