Editor:

I take issue with Sports Editor Ian MacLaren’s assertion that the NFL fumbled on Obamacare. He said the “right wing celebrated.” Does that mean everyone who thinks the federal government should not be involved with their health care decisions is a right winger?

That will be a long list, because the majority of Americans do not want Obamacare. Should I call you a left wing socialist because you support Obamacare? The fact is, many people including independents and Democrats oppose Obamacare.

He said the NFL has an opportunity to quell unfounded societal fears by promoting Obamacare. My insurance premiums have gone up. That is not unfounded. After the latest IRS scandal, do you think people shouldn’t be scared of an additional 16,000 IRS agents? How about the 36 counties in Mississippi that are not going to have exchanges?

He also touted the rule of law for his rationale of why the NFL should promote Obamacare. Funny how people on the left love to use the rule of law when it works in their favor. I somehow think if the NFL was supporting the right to bear arms, people like him would be outraged. What if the NFL took a pro-life stance? After all, how many potential linebackers were not born because of a woman’s right to choose? Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn’t it?

The bottom line is that no private business should be compelled by the government to promote an agenda whether you deem it socially responsible or not. You have the right to support that business or not, just as I do. I applaud the NFL for not bowing down to political pressure.
