Sen. Floyd Haskel said this week he hopes to be able to salvage funds for three critical Colorado water projects and get full funding restored to two others. The House Appropriations Public Works Subcommittee Monday failed to appropriate funds for the Dallas Creek and Fruitland Mesa water storage projects on Colorado's West Slope. Funds appropriated for two West Slope projects - Dolores and Animas-La Plata - were less than requested for fiscal 1974.

An old landmark near Rico was completely destroyed by fire last week. The one-and-one-half story cabin at the Engel mine was discovered a smoldering pile of ashes and the cabin and contents are a total loss. The cabin was built 55 years ago from hand-hewed logs after a deposit of copper-gold ore was discovered in the Eagle tunnel nearby. In the late 1920, vandals broke windows, destroyed the interior and furnishings and a large stock of foodstuffs. A guest register containing several hundred names of visitors, including five persons from foreign countries, was torn apart and the pages shredded.

Jack Kinkade says that his gas allotment from Conoco at Kinkade Chevrolet Company may be used up by the end of next week. The company is only allowed the same amount of gas as they sold during the same period a year ago.

More than 30 complaints of Colorado food stores raising their prices above the rate authorized by President Nixon's June 13 freeze have been received by the IRS in Denver. Investigators will begin checking these complaints starting Thursday.
