“The Simple Art of Japanese Tenkara,” a fixed-line fly-fishing class, will take place Aug. 2-3 at Mancos Public Library.
Japanese tenkara is the ancient practice of fixed-line fly-fishing for trout. The class will provide a historical overview and a hands-on introduction to basic gear and tenkara techniques, show how Western practices are being integrated with tenkara, provide an initial hands-on familiarization in a stream and provide individualized coaching for each participant.
The class will start with an overview at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Mancos Public Library. On Saturday morning, the group will meet for a hands-on instruction on the river to familiarize participants with the technique.
