School may be out, but activities are still going on for Cortez kids.
The Piñon Project has been offering daily activities Monday through Thursday along with Friday adventure trips for young people 7 and older. The activities began June 3, will last through mid-August and are free.
A free lunch will also be provided to young people on Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On a weekly basis, Monday will feature gardening, Tuesday a free movie at the Fiesta Theatre, Wednesday will be an outdoor pool day, and Thursday a sports day.
Fridays include a series of “adventure trips” to nearby parks and trails. These trips require an RSVP at least 48 hours in advance.
The first month of the programming saw treks to Sand Canyon, Boggy Draw, Mancos State Park, and the Carpenter Trail. Future Friday trips and activities include:
