A six-month project to repair sanitation infrastructure on the north side of Cortez is scheduled to begin July 1.
The Cortez Sanitation District contracted with Four Corners Materials for the construction, which will include replacing 1 mile of sanitary sewer line and manholes along with reconnecting sewer services between North Ridge Drive, North Market Street and West Empire Street.
The project – the Cortez Sanitation District Carpenter Area Sewer Improvements Project – is expected to run through January. During the construction, through traffic on streets and alleys will be closed on a rolling basis as needed, according to Mark Punchak, estimator and project manager with Four Corners Materials.
Punchak said the contract is for $2.3 million and will include replacing the clay sewer line with new PVC piping.
“This project will replace sewer lines that are broken, sagging and infested with roots and will provide water quality benefits such as reducing the threat of groundwater contamination for community residents in and near Cortez by improving the infrastructure that protects our valuable water resources,” Four Corners Materials wrote in a news release.
Four Corners is looking to kick off construction in the area of North Austin, North Beech, and Wedgewood streets, according to Punchak.
“Four Corners Materials will make every effort to limit the impact to your private property and to keep impacted individuals informed prior to and during construction in your specific areas,” the release said.
The improvements project was financed by the Colorado Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund, according to Four Corners Materials.
