Trimble Spa & Natural Hot Springs remains open for the summer despite closing its Olympic pool, which will have to be removed and replaced.
“We’re trying to dispel the rumor that we’re closed. The Olympic pool will have to be replaced, but we are still offering all our other services,” said Trimble Hot Springs General Manager Fran Dooan.
Trimble experienced a tough summer in 2018, with the business under a mandatory evacuation for 2½ weeks during the 416 Fire. During the remaining summer, Dooan said, business was down because of the heavy smoke from the fire, which burned 54,000 acres from June 1 to July 31.
This summer, Dooan said – probably fueled by the lack of the sound of laughing children filling the air around the Olympic pool – she’s fighting the false rumor Trimble has closed.
“We’ve lost our families and kids, but the good thing is that it’s nice and quiet if you want to enjoy a nice soak in our two natural geothermal pools and enjoy a nice quiet afternoon and evening on the lawn,” she said.
Trimble’s spa, sauna and two-unit guesthouse all remain open for the summer.
Dooan said Trimble is adding special events, including exercise classes from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, bands with music on the lawn from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays and tai chi classes at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.
Without the Olympic pool, the business is also offering special discounts, offering two for $20 entry on Tuesdays and $4 off entry of adult and senior passes from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Friday.
The Olympic pool structurally failed during winter, and Dooan said the decision was made on May 1 to go through summer 2019 without the pool, which is fenced off from the open areas of the grounds.
Dooan anticipates replacing the Olympic pool with a new pool between September and December, and she said Trimble is currently examining design options and getting quotes for replacement.
The size of the replacement pool has not yet been determined, she said.
Dooan also said new investors are looking at joining the ownership group of the spa and hot springs, which has been for sale for years, and Trimble is also set to go before the La Plata County Board of Adjustment on July 9 regarding a 10-foot variance setback that has been used historically and will be needed for the new pool’s replacement.
