Residents and businesses are reminded not to be fooled by impersonators who claim to be representatives of La Plata Electric Association threatening to disconnect service for lack of payment.

According to a news release sent by LPEA, scammers have been making calls to LPEA members claiming that their service will be disconnected for “lack of payment.”

If customers receive a “questionable phone call demanding immediate payment,” they are asked to get a callback number from the potential scammer and call LPEA directly to check on the status of their account.

LPEA’s customer service representatives are available during business hours Monday through Friday at 247-5786 for any clarification about any billing issue.
