The Skate 4 Life skateboarding competition took place at the Cortez Skate Park on Saturday, June 8.
Chi Patel, the suicide prevention coordinator at the Piñon Project, was one of the guest speakers at the Saturday event.
This was the eighth year of the event, which aims to promote suicide awareness. A scooter competition was one of the contests that took place.

Skaters, musicians, hula hoopers, and more took over the Cortez Skate Park last Saturday for the annual Suicide Awareness Skateboarding Competition.

This was the eighth year that the competition has happened. It’s sponsored by the 4 Corners 4 Life Suicide Awareness Foundation, and aims to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide through creating a safe and supportive space.

In addition to the skateboarding and freestyle BMX competition, this year’s event featured music from hip-hop artist G-Life, guest speakers from local nonprofits, food, and more.
