Think up a better story

Editor:

I read your article on pricey gas with interest as I was in Farmington Tuesday and purchased some diesel for $3.65 per gallon and gas also was selling for $3.65 to $3.67 per gallon. The same was true in Shiprock.

For AAA representatives to cite the economic uncertainty and the end of the payroll tax as a reason for higher gas prices in Cortez does not hold water. For them to cite a refinery in Illinois as a reason for higher prices in Cortez does not seem logical. I thought that we received our gas supply from somewhere in the Southwest. Very interesting, but I think the people who sell gas need to think up a better story. I do not buy this one.

Editor’s note: The story was commenting on an increase in gas prices, not the differential between Cortez and other places. Gas taxes are higher in Colorado than in New Mexico.
