Beulah Fay Shepperd

Funeral services for lifelong area resident Beulah Fay Shepperd will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Empire Street Chapel. Bishop Vaughn Cook will officiate. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery.

Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Relief Society Room at the church.

Beulah was born Oct, 11, 1916, in Lewis, Colo., the daughter of James Monroe and Nancy Jane (Ledford) Uptain. She passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 96.

Beulah and Sidney Everett Shepperd were married on July 24, 1934, in Cortez. They were caretakers of the Lewis Cemetery for many years. Beulah was a member of the Lewis Friendship Club and Lewis Grange. She worked at Southwest Memorial Hospital from 1957 to 1960. Beulah sewed mattresses during World War II for herself and others. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and ceramics.

Surviving Beulah are her daughter, Barbara "Bobby Jo" Vedsted of Clifton, Colo.; grandchildren, Celia D. Vedsted and husband, Lee Hyde of Grand Junction, Robert L. Vedsted Jr. and wife, Darlene of Pleasant View, Diann K. Brewer of Clifton, Joe Hare and wife, Deanne of Fillmore, Utah, Cydney A. Hare of North Salt Lake City, Utah, and Chris Hyde; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kyann, Briana, Danielle, Zane, Emery Ann, and Brenan; and great-great-granddaughter, Celia Scarlet Smallwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nancy Uptain; husband, Sidney Shepperd; daughter, Donna Hare; and siblings, Emma, Nellie, Francis, Harry, Clarence, Wilford, Walter, and Dwayne.
