The Western Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding a Sound The Alarm smoke alarm installation event in Cortez on Saturday, May 11.

This event is part of a nationwide event to install 100,000 smoke alarms over a three-week period.

This event will be staffed with volunteers from Grand Junction, Alamosa, Pagosa Springs and Durango, but is in need of volunteers from Cortez and all of Montezuma County.

In the past there had been a good group of Red Cross volunteers in the local, but that number has now dwindled down to one. I am asking for those who care about your community to come to the Cortez Fire Protection District station at 31 N. Washington St. at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11 and volunteer to support the Sound The Alarm event and learn how you can become a Red Cross volunteer and support your community during times of a major disaster as well as when a disaster strikes a single family.
