San Juan Basin Archaeological Society to meet

The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will host a presentation called “Ancient Woodworking, Animal Use and Hunting Practices in Southeastern Utah” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Laurie Webster and Chuck LaRue will discuss new research from the Cedar Mesa Perishables Project. There will be a social at 6:30 p.m. before the meeting.

Webster is a specialist in the perishable material culture of the Southwest. She received her doctorate in anthropology from the University of Arizona and is a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History and the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center.

LaRue is a wildlife biologist who specializes in the natural history of the Colorado Plateau. He has conducted bird and vegetation surveys for the National Park Service, Peabody Coal and the Navajo tribe. He conducts the feather, fur, wood and hide analysis for the perishables project.
