Once again, our supposedly conservative Republican commissioners are floating a proposal to increase taxes, this time in the form of a sales tax increase.
The sales pitch, as presented by Larry Don Suckla, is that there will be a corresponding decrease in property taxes.
This type of proposal is positively... progressive!
The real fact is that the Republicans in Washington remain committed to their party doctrine of trickle-down taxation.
Cut taxes to the bone on the wealthy and multinational corporations, and wait for the benefits to trickle their way down to our stagnant rural communities. And our supposed local representatives cannot find it among themselves to whisper a word of dissent.
What exactly do our commissioners represent in these troubled times? Inquiring minds want to know!
