Pauline Lola Evans

Longtime La Plata County resident, Pauline Lola "Polly" Evans, 93, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in Mancos. Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary on Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be Friday, May 10, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Hood Mortuary. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.

Mrs. Evans was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Kokomo, Okla., the daughter of John and Rosa Colby.

Her parents and 13 siblings moved to La Junta, Colo.

During World War II, Polly moved to California to work in production to help in the war effort building airplanes. She was married to Richard "Dick" Evans on April 14, 1949, in Detroit, Mich. Dick and Polly have also lived in Detroit, Mich., operating a family-owned trucking company, Evans Cartage. The young family moved to Durango in 1960 after purchasing several businesses north of Durango.

They owned and operated Mac's Liquor and Hermosa Court Motel for many years in Durango. Mr. Evans also worked for Burnett Construction.

Polly is survived by her son Rick Evans of Dolores, Colo.; grandchildren Richard Evans of Moab, Utah; Maria (spouse: Nugget) Shupe of Moab, Utah; Kristy (spouse: Raul) Lara of Winnemucca, Nev.; and great-grandchildren: Shailey, Nakiya, Brylie, and Mauricio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, and 13 brothers and sisters.
