The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred last Friday evening in Dolores on Second Street.
Nobody was injured, Undersheriff Vern Knuckles said Monday, and the incident was still under investigation.
He said about 6:20 p.m., a man in a white pickup allegedly fired two shots out the passenger window, striking an occupied Chevy Impala parked on Second Street in front of the Dolores Chamber of Commerce.
According to witnesses, the gunman then fled the scene, driving north on Second then west on Central Avenue.
The truck was found abandoned on Linden Street in Cortez and was impounded while a search warrant was being obtained, Knuckles said. The driver of the truck is being sought for questioning.
The victim’s vehicle was also impounded as part of the investigation. No motive has been established.

The woman was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to a Denver hospital, according to rescue officials.The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Lost Canyon Creek near Dolores until 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. The creek is mostly staying within its channel but is over its banks in some sections.Gauge reports indicate that minor lowland flooding may occur near Lost Canyon Creek. Peak flows will occur during the next few nights. As of Monday, the creek was flowing at 311 cubic feet per second.
“Excessive runoff from snow melt will cause creeks, streams and rivers to rise,” according to the advisory. “Minor flooding along the banks and in low lying areas will be possible.”
The Montezuma County sheriff is warning boaters that rising water has created debris flows on the Dolores River upstream from Dolores. On Monday, the river was flowing at 1,940 cfs.
