Changes at Southwest Memorial
The League of Women Voters of Montezuma County will host a program by Kent Helwig, CEO of Southwest Memorial Hospital, on Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m., at the Ponderosa Restaurant, 108 S. Eighth St. in Dolores.
Helwig will discuss the many services offered by the hospital and its clinics, quality improvement initiatives and improvements in access to care as a result of significant efforts to recruit physicians to the community.

Free parent education class
Why does my child do that? Do other children my child's age act like this? Who do I call to ask for help? This and many more questions will be answered on Saturday, May 4, with parent education provided by Lisa Henry, LPC.
The training and support will be held at Beech Street Preschool. Snacks, lunch and child care will be provided free.

Mancos Valley Chorus
The Mancos Valley Chorus will be performing favorite songs from previous concerts in their spring series, "Ooh, Sing It Again."
The chorus will take listeners on a road trip, starting in Detroit, home of the fabulous Motown sound. They'll travel along the famous Route 66, and wind up on a Rocky Mountain high. Who knows where their travels may take them in between!
As always,they have very entertaining soloists, some brand new, and they will be joined by a bass player and drummer.
The chorus will perform on Sunday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. at the Mancos United Methodist Church on 470 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos; on Tuesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park in Cortez, Wednesday, May 8, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road in Durango, and May 10, at 7 p.m. at the Mancos United Methodist Church on 470 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos. Mancos Valley Chorus concerts are free to the public.

Burgers and Casting Clinic
The Dolores River Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited invites all members and friends to attend the annual Spring Fling Casting Clinic and Cookout at Denny Lake Park Monday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own fly rods, but a limited number of rods will be available.

Dolores River Dialogue
There will be a full Dolores River Dialogue (DRD) meeting on Tuesday, July 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the offices of the Dolores Water Conservancy District.
The topics of this meeting will be the "319 Watershed Plan" that the DRD Steering Committee has been working on since early 2012, updates on the next version of the Lower Dolores River Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan for Native Fish, as well as other updates including drought forecasting.
Trail safety/trail etiquette
Everyone is welcome to a presentation by Susan Grabbe, DVM, "Trail Safety & Trail Etiquette," at the Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen meeting on Tuesday, May 7, at the Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Rd., in Cortez.
Arrive for dinner at 6:15 p.m. for buy-your-own Taco Tuesday; the presentation will start at 7 p.m.

The Dolores Mountain Quilters will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave.

Back Country Horsemen
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 9 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in Durango. Social time will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7. Guests are welcome.
After a short business meeting from 7 to 7:30, the group will gather under the pavilion, where Bob and Terri Beecher, owners of Out West Saddlery in Pagosa Springs, will provide a live saddle-fitting demonstration.
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen work to perpetuate commonsense enjoyment of public lands by horsemen and pack stock users.

Free programs on estate planning
Erin Johnson will present two free programs on estate planning at the Cortez Welcome Center on Tuesday, May 14.
The first session will cover common errors in estate planning efforts and will be presented at 1:30 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.
The second session will introduce succession planning tools for businesses, farms and ranches. This session will be presented at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Dairy Goat Information Day
The Four Corners Dairy Goat Breeders will hold a dairy goat information day on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 23161 Rd. G.2 in Cortez.
Ask questions about raising dairy goats. See animals and get advice and demonstrations on care and maintenance. Multiple breeds will be represented.
Some will be available for sale. Some equipment may be available for sale.
Lakeview Harmony Club Centennial
The Lakeview Harmony Club, established in May 1913, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday, May 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lakeview Grange Hall, east of Highway 145 on Road M. The event will include music, refreshments and door prizes.
The Lakeview Harmony Club, organized by pioneer women, is a community fellowship and service group. Family and friends of past members are invited to attend.

Baby-sitting class rescheduled
A baby-sitting class originally scheduled for May 4 will be held on Friday, May 31, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Southwest Memorial Hospital Community Annex Room.
The cost is $25 per participant, and all proceeds will go to the SWMH Relay for Life Team.
The course will cover how to stay safe, feeding, playtime, and how to start and safely advertise a baby-sitting business.
Students will learn how to change diapers and identify age-appropriate toys and games, and will receive a basic first aid overview. Choking and what to do in an emergency is also covered.
