A company of two hundred men of the Civilian Conservation Corps will be established at the old Beaver Camp by May 25. The men will be recruited from the region from Pagosa Springs to Grand Junction and assigned to this area. They will be called at once to Fort Logan, near Denver, where they will be conditioned and outfitted, and then brought here for six months.

According to reports from various sources, there is to be considerable activity at McPhee and in the woods shortly. The crew at work building the logging road from the mouth of Dry Canyon to the top of the mesa is making good progress with the hope of having the job completed by the last of this month.

Jim Trimble is no quaker. J.L. Trimble and daughter, Winnie, came in last Friday from their winter stay in southern California. Mr. Trimble has plenty to tell about the big earthquake at Long Beach, and while he did not suffer any hardship, he thinks the experience was no joke.

There is no prospect of the Telluride brewery opening at any time soon, if it every opens again. The owner states that he has not the capital to start the plant, as it will require about $5,000 to buy the necessary state and federal licenses and buy stock and equipment. The Telluride brewery at one time turned out the finest brew in the state.

The beaver had his inning in the legislature last week, when Rep. Dave Johnston, spokesman for the sportsman's organization of the state, pushed his protection bill through the House. Johnston charged that trapping beaver in Colorado for their pelts has developed into a "racket." He said, "The beaver is the est protection we have for our water supply. He builds dams which hold back the flood waters for the benefit of irrigators."
