Montezuma-Cortez High School competed last Friday at the Montrose Invitational.

As teams, the Lady Panthers took 12th with 19 points and the Panthers placed 18th with two points.

Rachel Demby led the M-CHS girls with a school record time of 2 minutes, 25 seconds in the 800-meter run. Demby’s fourth-place time overall beat Corin Wolf’s M-CHS record, which stood for six years.

Miranda Elliott heaved the discus 115 feet, 9 inches to come in fourth.

“Both efforts put those girls in contention for a top 18 spot in the 4A state rankings,” M-CHS assistant coach Paul Koops said via email.

Jordan Miller ran to a fourth-place time of 16.96 in the girls 100-meter hurdles.

Justice Ramos ran fast in the boys 400-meter dash, clocking in at 53.32 to place seventh.

Eagle Valley High School swept the boys and girls team championships with 130 and 90 points, respectively.

M-CHS will compete at the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
