Dolores track teams perform well in Ignacio

Competing against 10 other schools at the Abel Velasquez Invitational on April 6, the Dolores High School boys and girls track teams benefited from numerous solid performances by their athletes.

Among the most impressive of those performances was that put forth by Aldon Adams, who dominated the sprint events and finished first in the 100-meter dash (11.75) and first in the 200-meter dash (23.98).

Also showcasing vast talent for the Bears was senior Cael McHenry, who raced to first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (17.08) and first in the 300-meter hurdles (44.75).

Caleb Neighbors crossed the line third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.42) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (48.17), and Ryan Nowlin placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.90). Zane Eichner placed ninth in the 200-meter dash (25.78).

The Dolores boys team finished third out of 11 teams in the team standings.

On the girls’ side, Dolores was led by Anaya Martinez, who placed second in the 3200-meter run (15.29.31). Brenn Jeter narrowly missed winning the triple jump when she finished second overall in the event (27 feet, 3½ inches), and also finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (21.30).

Sam Castillo placed third in the discus (92 feet, 4 inches) and fourth in the shot put (27 feet, 4 inches) and Akira Edwards placed fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:19.12).

Delpha Houston crossed the line eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:20.49), Jenesis Shields placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.39) and Navana Wilderson finished ninth in the 100-meter dash (15.16).

The Dolores girls team finished sixth out of 11 teams in the team standings.

Next up for both Dolores teams will be the Pine River Invitational, in Bayfield on April 13.
