The red hot Lady Panthers tennis team won again Monday afternoon.

And, again, the girls knocked off the Miyamura Patriots of Gallup, N.M.

This time, Montezuma-Cortez High School welcomed Miyamura to the Jim Harfendorff Tennis Courts. But it was anything but a battle.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Patriots, 6-1, to move to 4-1 overall this season.

Kristen Parker continued her undefeated streak with a win over Miyamura's Kelley Shell, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles match.

Sadee Threlkeld won her third match in a row for the Lady Panthers at No. 2 singles, shutting out Sanyata Komarolov, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Mary Wright played nearly flawless tennis in the first set, winning 6-2. But Gabi Myers put the Patriots in a spot to win the second set, forcing a 6-6 tie. The home crowd gathered to watch the very competitive deciding set. An inspired Wright triumphed to a 7-2 tie-breaking win. Wright remains undefeated with a record of 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, M-CHS seniors Emily Walck and Wright also remained undefeated by winning their match 6-2, 6-1. Brianna Begay and Kate Jane played some good tennis for Miyamura, but Walck and Wright were simply quicker and stronger at the net and baseline.

Jessica Quinonez and Jaci Veach dominated the No. 2 doubles match for M-CHS. Quinonez returned almost everything at the baseline, and Veach played very tough and accurate at the net.

Racquel Lucero and Skye Cole used precise serves and consistent play to win at No. 4 doubles, 6-1, 6-3.

Tori Calliham and Samantha Woyedwodzic lost at No. 3 doubles, giving the Patriots their lone win.

Kate Wright and Cheyenne Stice won the junior varsity No. 1 doubles match for M-CHS, 8-5. Courtney Gray was victorious over Miyamura in the JV No. 1 singles match, winning 8-5.

The Lady Panthers open region play this afternoon on the road against Montrose at 4. M-CHS plays Saturday morning at Grand Junction Central at 9.
