Local residents Patsy and Kenny Smith recently turned their good luck into fortune at the Monsanto Annual Consultant Meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico on February 6-8, 2013. Entered into a drawing early in the convention, Patsy was elated to later hear her name called as the recipient of $2,500 for the charity of her choice. "Of course, our first thought was the Mancos Public Library" said Patsy, who served as the director of the library for 19 years before retiring in 2011. Since retiring, she has been helping her husband Kenny manage his business, Premier Weed Management. "We work all over Montezuma County," says Patsy, "and know how important the Mancos Public Library is to our customers, and to our own family. I never dreamed an act as simple as attending a convention would present us with an opportunity to help our local library. We are thrilled. "

Library Director Lee Hallberg said the money will be put to good use. "This donation couldn't come at a better time", he said, "the library is facing a few challenging years, and this will go a long way toward helping support the programs and services that the community relies on".

A small ceremony was held at the library on March 29, where Patsy & Kenny presented the America's Farmers Grow Communities Fund check to the library.
