Hello Mancos. My name is Shannon Livick and I will be the editor of the Mancos Times, starting this week. Some of you may know me, some of you may not. I grew up in the area, going to school in Dolores, graduating from Cortez High School and often coming to Mancos for different activities, mainly 4-H groups.

After graduating high school, I moved to California, where I attended college and earned a degree in journalism from California State University, Chico. I worked at a variety of papers in California. Some of my favorites: The Tahoe World, the Visalia Times Delta and the Tulare Advance Register, where I was the editor.

I returned to the Four Corners area when my son Gavin was 3 weeks old. He is now nearly 7 years old and I also have a 4-year-old daughter (who celebrates her fifth birthday on Friday.) My husband Gary teaches at the Cortez Middle School and is from the Central Valley of California and although he occasionally misses orange trees in his backyard, he loves the Southwest and everything it has to offer.

This valley is beautiful and this town is full of people who are friendly and all have a story to tell. I can't wait to get to know each and every one of you and to tell your stories or just share some coffee, or tea.

I have been the editor of the Dolores Star for over three years and have grown to love small towns and also learn just how important the newspaper is to a small town.

Please call me at 564-6039 or e-mail me to just say hi, to tell me about something exciting going on in town or drop me a line at mancostimes@cortezjournal.com.

Remember, if you want something published, such as a letter or announcement, I will need you to send it to me before noon on Monday.

Thanks again and I look forward to meeting you all.
