A late track and field scheduling change allowed Montezuma-Cortez High School to head south before spring break.

Many performed well at the Aztec Icebreaker Invitational in New Mexico on Thursday afternoon.

Miranda Elliott led a strong day for the Lady Panthers, winning the discus throw with a distance of 109 feet, 10 inches. Elliott also heaved the shot put 30-1, which was good for fourth-place.

Amy Campbell ran to fourth- and-fifth-place times of 30.9 and 13.83 in the 200- and-100-meter dash races. Amanda Gallegos and Rachel Demby each placed second in the 400 and 800 at 1:04.33 and 2:38.68. Jordan Miller recorded fourth-place times of 17.24 and 52.42 in the 100- and-300-meter hurdles.

For the Panthers, Leander Rockwell threw the discus 129-5 to come in third.

Justice Ramos came in sixth in the 400 at a finish of 54.87. Dillon Wells had sixth- and-seventh-place times of 5:06.88 and 2:20.31 in the 1,600 and 800.

M-CHS will compete next when it hosts the Cortez Invitational on Tuesday, April 9, at Panther Stadium.
