Make it four in a row for Dolores baseball.

After sweeping its field in Farmington, N.M., last week at the Piedra Vista tournament, the Bears made mincemeat out of the Bayfield junior varsity 17-5 Tuesday on the road.

"They're playing good. They're hitting well and our pitching is improving," said first-year Dolores coach Chris Barry.

Tyler Weir got things started for the Bears (4-4) in the first inning with a three-run home run that bounced off the roof of the high school.

Seniors Cody Carroll and Chaz Thompson shared pitching duties.

Dolores has won four games in six days. Now, the Bears will head to Blanding, Utah, to play four games in three days at the San Juan High School tourney.

Dolores plays today, Friday and has two games Saturday. The key to another successful tourney run is solid fundamentals.

"The biggest key is fundamental fielding, smart baseball and smart base running," Barry said. "Our pitching will be stretched and the depth chart will have to come through, but we're getting there."
