Corissa Guynes showed why she is the No. 1-ranked 1A girls hurdler in Colorado.
The Dove Creek senior swept the competition at the Mickey Dunn Invitational last Saturday in Grand Junction.
Guynes won the 100-meter hurdles in 17 seconds, 26 tenths of a second. She also won the 300-hurdles at 49.09, crushing the second-place finisher by more than a full second. Guynes is ranked No. 1 in both hurdle events. Her performance helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 10th-place team finish out of 21 schools. Dove Creek tied rival Dolores with 27 points. Montezuma-Cortez High School tallied 25 points to finish 13th. Durango won the girls team title with 82 points.
Michelle Kline raced to a fourth-place finish in the girls 400-meter dash for Dolores in a time of 65.26. Cassie Lard placed third in the 200 in 28.97, while taking fifth in the triple jump at 31-9.5.
Moki Yougquist was seventh in the boys 110-hurdles for Dolores at 17.84. The Bears were 19th as a team with four points.
Justice Ramos came in fifth in the boys 400 for M-CHS, clocking in at 54.79. Leander Rockwell heaved the discus 120-11, which was good for fifth-place. The Panthers placed 16th as a team with eight points.
Eagle Valley won the boys championship with 90 points.
Miranda Elliott paced the Lady Panthers with a third-place distance of 107-9 in the discus throw.
M-CHS and Dove Creek are off for spring break and will each resume action on Tuesday, April. 9.
Mancos
Mancos High School competed last Saturday at the Piedra Vista Invite in Farmington, N.M.
The Bluejays placed 12th with four points. Host Piedra Vista won the boys title with 134 points. Aztec (N.M.) won the girls championship with 134.
Brandon McKie led the Mancos boys in the 800, coming in fourth-place at a time of 2:12.9.
Kristin Adams had an eighth-place finish for the Lady Bluejays in the 800 at 2:57.2.
Both Mancos and Dolores head back to New Mexico today to compete in the Aztec Icebreaker Invite, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
