A black Ford F-150 collided with a handicapped parking space sign at Walmart on Friday afternoon.

A black Ford F-150 pickup knocked over a concrete and metal handicapped-parking parking sign in the Walmart parking lot on Thursday afternoon.

Cortez Police Lt. Andy Brock said the driver was a 72-year-old man who accidentally hit the gas as he pulled into the parking space.

“It’s a cement pole that was cemented into the ground, and it was knocked over flat,” Brock said.

Brock said the driver was not injured and impairment was not a factor. The vehicle was towed, Brock said.

“He does pretty good damage to the front of his truck,” Brock said.

Because the vehicle damaged private property, Brock said the driver’s insurance should cover the costs.

Two Cortez police officers investigated the incident. The vehicle has Colorado license plates designated for people with disabilities. Walmart employees were on scene as well.
