Accident kills horses

Two horses died Monday morning after they were hit by a vehicle while standing on Highway 491, the Colorado State Patrol is reporting.

David Van Bibber, CSP spokesman, said the crash occurred at 6:42 a.m. and the two horses died upon impact from a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 491 near County Road L.

Van Bibber said the horses escaped from a pasture near Highway 491 and County Road P, and traveled two miles south where they were hit by the vehicle.

According to the CSP, the southbound lanes were closed for about 30 minutes while troopers attended to the crash.
