Holy Week Laity Services
Holy Week Laity Services are conducted by lay people from a number of local churches. These services take place at 7 a.m. and last a half an hour.
The locations this year are: Monday, March 25: Family Worship Center - Foursquare Church; Tuesday, March 26: Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church; Wednesday, March 27: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; Thursday, March 28: First Assembly of God Church; and Friday, March 29: Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Holy Week at St. Barnabas
Holy Week and Easter Day Services at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 110 West North Street in Cortez, begin with Palm Sunday on March 24. Services will be at 8 and 10 a.m. as well as 4 p.m. In the park.
Maundy Thursday, March 28: Foot Washing in the park at 4:30 p.m.; 6:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist, foot washing and stripping of the altar. Good Friday, March 29: Noon Good Friday Liturgy; 6:30 p.m. Tennebrae. Easter Sunday, March 31: 6:30 a.m Easter Vigil (sunrise); 8 a.m. Breakfast & egg hunt ; 9 a.m. Easter Service.
Messianic Passover Seder
Passover Seder will be held on Monday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at 15325 Rd. 22 (north of Cortez, near Road S, off Highway 491). As celebrated in homes throughout the world, the Passover Seder is rich with historical meaning and traditions, as well as with Messianic symbolism. Passover is a holy convocation, a calling together for a sacred assembly. The observance will last about three hours and includes reading together through the Haggadah, eating the symbolic elements, drinking the cups, partaking of a meal of traditional foods, partaking of the Lord's Supper, all with music and worship and in order. An optional $10 donation would be appreciated. Easter party for children
All children in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to attend an Easter party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church, 350 S. Washington St., Cortez, directly across the street from Manaugh School.
This activity is being organized by the "Fellowshipping Fun Loving Outreaching Christian" committee and the Youth Group of the church. Numerous games and activities are being planned for the children to enjoy. A raffle will be held for a number of items, including a large vinyl bunny. Refreshments will be available for parents who accompany their children.
