On Saturday night, my family and I attended an exciting dinner at J Fargo's Restaurant. Nineteen officers from the Cortez, Montezuma County, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Ute Mountain Tribal Police volunteered their time to be our waiters. Their tips were all to raise money for the D.A.R.E. program in our community.

Our kids were delighted when we arrived and friendly officers greeted them at the door with D.A.R.E. goody bags. They were overjoyed with their waiter, beginning with coloring pages and ending with a dessert he put together himself.

Kudos to Tiffany Ghere, the manager at J Fargo's, who created this yearly fundraiser. Last year she raised more than $5,700. As of dinner time Saturday, she had already raised $2,100, not including officer tips. I am so proud of a community who will come together for this great program to help our kids. One officer was tipped over $200! It was a great night, one we plan on attending for years to come.
