PRCA championship rodeo camp
In conjunction with the Four States Ag Expo, the PRCA championship rodeo camp returns to Cortez on Sunday. It will be at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp is for ages 8-Older and all abilities are welcome. Students must pre-register to participate and there are limited spots available for each camp. Free one-day rodeo day camps offer instruction in bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding. Participants will learn about safety techniques, learn the correct spurring moves, have riding equipment checked/fixed, learn chute procedures, handling livestock, working with pickup men and an overall review of the rodeo business. Cortez Golf Advisory Board seeks youth member
The City of Cortez Golf Advisory Board is seeking one youth to hold a position on their board starting in April. The youth member will have all rights and responsibilities as adult members with possible voting rights as well. People serving on the Golf Advisory Board give input on the course, promote and advertise the golf course, advise and make recommendations concerning agreements with the golf pro, and work together to ensure overall satisfaction with Conquistador Golf Course. Board meetings are the fourth Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8 a.m., and are held March through October. Letters of interest need to be submitted no later than Friday, March 22.
Southwest Softball registration day

Ute Mtn. Rec. women's basketball tourney
The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc is hosting the "Bad Girl" women's basketball tournament on the weekend of March 23-24. It's a 16-team, 9-women roster double-elimination tourney. Horseshoe league meeting
Anyone interested in pitching horseshoes in a league is invited to attend an information meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, located at 320 N. Harrison St. in Cortez. The league starts in late May and ends in mid to late August on Thursday nights at the American Legion. If you have any questions, please contact Justina Whited at 565-1001.
Ute Mtn. Rec. spring basketball league
The Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc is hosting its men's and women's open spring basketball league. Entry fee is $250. It's an eight-game guarantee plus a tournament. Cortez Rec. men's 40-Older basketball league
The City of Cortez Parks and Recreation department is now registering for its men's 5-on-5 40-Older basketball league to begin Thursday, April 11. It's double-elimination with awards for first through third-place. Entry fee is $125. It's 12 teams in each division. This tourney fills up fast and teams must have a coach on the bench at all times. Tri-City Soccer registrations
Tri-City Soccer is currently accepting registrations for spring soccer. Spring soccer will run from April 8, through May 4, for most teams. There will be teams for children 3 through 13 (based on their age as of July 31, 2012). Placement is based on first come, first served space availability. If a child played soccer in the fall of 2012, then parents do not need to re-register their child. Registrations can be picked up at the Cortez Recreation Center.
