After a short break for the holidays, the Four Corners Community Band will resume practice on Monday, Jan. 14.

Practices are held each week, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Cortez.

This is a voluntary group, and is made up of members ranging in age from 18 to nearly 80 years old!

The only requirements are that you are able to play concert band music of at least a high school level, and also that you are able to attend a minimum of 60 percent of the practices.

There are also a small annual membership dues.

The band plays concert band music of every style, including classical, jazz, TV themes, rock and roll, Broadway, etc.

We perform throughout the entire Four Corners area, including Rico, Dolores, Cortez and Mancos.

The members come from all walks of life, including teachers, both retired and employed, health care professionals, government employees and students.

Though the membership has grown significantly in the past few years, we are still short on flutes and clarinets, and especially percussionists.

Feel free to attend any Monday night practice as an observer if you would like to check it out.

On Jan. 14, we will begin a new season, with new music, including the music from the upcoming Disney movie “Aladdin,” and medleys of hits from both the 1890s and the 1960s. We would love to have you join us!

Please call me if you need any further information, at 970-565-9804.
