Merriam-Webster defines a sandwich as “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between.” The definition clearly states “bread,” which would seemingly disqualify the notion that ravioli is a sandwich.

Going back to Merriam-Webster, bread is defined as “a usually baked and leavened food made of a mixture whose basic constituent is flour or meal.” It’s fairly obvious that the main ingredient in the pasta surrounding the ravioli filling is in fact flour.

Some may argue that the definition clearly states that the filling must be between two slices of bread or a split roll. Given that the ravioli filling is closed within one continuous piece of bread, it cannot be considered a split roll or two slices of bread.

However, an Uncrustable (A Smuckers product) is defined as a “sealed crustless sandwich.” I wish the mainstream media would take note of this and stop trying to deceive the public.
