The Montezuma County Historical Society invites the public to a lecture and book signing featuring Andrew Gulliford, author of “The “Woolly West: Colorado’s Hidden History of Sheepscapes,” on Jan. 12.

Gulliford’s book is the first written about historic Colorado Basque, Greek, and Hispano shepherding families, whose ranching legacies continue to the present day.

“Four Corners names in “The Woolly West” may have a familiar ring: Montano, Vallejos, Jaramillo, Muniz, Maestas, Gallegos, Forest, Redd, and many others,” Joyce Lawrence said in a press release.

The presentation is Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hampton Hall, Cortez Methodist Church, 515 N. Park St., from 2 to 4 p.m. The presentation is free, and refreshments will be served.

For more information, call Joyce Lawrence at 970-882-2636 or DeEtta Johnson at 970-560-4717.
