Panthers claim 3 league titles

Levi Gross wrestles Ian Konrad, of Fruita Monument, on Saturday at the Southwestern League championships in Grand Junction. Gross defeated Konrad by a 4-1 decision on the way to a SWL title at 120 pounds for Montezuma-Cortez.
Justice Ramos takes down Garrett Marcum, of Durango, on Saturday at the Southwestern League championships in Grand Junction. Ramos beat Marcum at 145 pounds by a 14-4 decision on the way to a second-place finish for Montezuma-Cortez.

Montezuma-Cortez High School claimed three wrestling titles at last Saturday's Southwestern League championships.

Host Grand Junction Central won the team title.

The Panthers went 0-5 in duals, but Ryan Daves and Trenton Gustafson continued their dominance at 138 and 182 pounds.

Each senior went 5-0 on the day to win SWL titles. Daves secured his No. 1 4A ranking and upped his undefeated record to 32-0. Gustafson moved to 29-3.

Sophomore Levi Gross went 5-0 at 120s to claim his first league championship.

Sophomores Justice Ramos and Seager Oliver both placed second at 145 and 160 with 4-1 records.

Freshmen Celestino Fernandez and Tyler Hageman each won a match at 106 and 152, respectively.

M-CHS will gear up for the 4A Western Regionals on Friday and Saturday at Montrose High School.
