The Cortez Fire Protection District will offer the second Citizens Fire Academy from March 7 through March 28. The academy will meet on Thursday nights, March 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays, March 9, 16 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the public's opportunity to come learn what it is like to be a firefighter. This program explores the many services that are provided by the fire district through classroom sessions, live demonstrations and participation, and a ride-along program. Applications can be picked up at the administration office at 23 N. Washington St. in Cortez, and must be returned by Friday, Feb. 22, by 5 p.m. There is no fee for this program.
