Despite delays, construction on the Mancos School District RE-6A football field was scheduled to begin this month after a Mancos Blue Jays playoff game at home against Merino High School.
Following the game on Nov. 3, which yielded the Blue Jays’ only loss in their 10-game season, the football field was turned over to Jaynes Build Corp., a construction company with multiple offices in the Four Corners area, for the beginning of renovations to the property.
Last week, construction crews were scheduled to complete demolition at the field. They were also scheduled to begin work on the soil at the field and underground utilities.
Crews were also to complete various construction tasks on the gym additions including work on steel decking and stud framing and to begin forming concrete foundation slabs at the elementary school.
According to an Oct. 31 report from Monty Guiles, owner’s representative for the Mancos school district, the school playground was scheduled to be complete by Dec. 1. However, Guiles said at the time that dates were subject to change due to “inspection required before utilization.”
