Some people say when you play a team sport you become a family, and family is just one of the many words that can be used to describe the Mancos boys varsity team. No matter what the problem, the team could rely on one another to be there no matter what. This trait showed Friday night and Saturday as the Mancos Bluejays took on the visiting Norwood Mavericks and the Ridgway Demons. From the beginning Mancos struggled to keep up with the intensity of the Mavericks and the Demons, but the Bluejays stayed right in the game with their drive to win.

The Bluejays were neck and neck with the Mavericks from the beginning and fought to keep the lead when they had it. On Saturday the boys played a fast paced game while Coach Yake subbed his players in and out to get an equal amount of playing time throughout the team. With anticipation on how the boys would play after a turmoil-filled week, the crowd watched in awe as the boys played more as a team than we had seen in weeks. However, on Saturday, there was no doubt that the Blue jays came to win. The boys were neck and neck with the Demons for the first two and a half quarters. During the end of the 3rd and the start of the 4th quarter the Blue Jays pulled away for a solid win.

From the point of view of a member of the Mancos community, I find it important to go to sporting events and support the kids that go out for that sport. I believe that that is the only way the kids will get through what they are going through and succeed - by the support from the community at their games cheering them on, no matter if the child is on C, JV, or even the Varsity team. Something that affects one person will affect the whole team and their performance and that's why it is important for the kids to stick together and be able to talk to one another and their coaches. Coach Yake will pull these boys together once again and have them playing as a team, no matter if they win or lose.

Our community is a small enough one where everyone knows each others business so why not take advantage of that and use that to tell everyone to come to the games, cheer on the Mancos Bluejays and become that tightknit community we once were.
