Dozens of locals and their dogs dressed up for the 15th annual For Pet’s Sake Humane Society Cortez Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.

“It looks like more than last year,” said Marian Rohman. “The costumes are terrific.”

The event was dedicated as a memorial to Earl Scott, who passed away and was the former president of For Pet’s Sake.

The 1-mile parade of pets and their people at Parque de Vida is a fundraiser for the organization, and brings out local creativity.

Costumes included The Grinch and his Dog, the cartoon cast of Warner Brothers, and a child dressed up as a Dalmatian.

Prizes were awarded for categories including fastest people and pets, best and best-coordinated costumes, best pet trick and most unusual pet to cross the finish line.
