Jerry Koskie reports a fine meeting of over 50 interested farmers met last week to hear about prospects for growing sunflower crops here. They formed a committee which will write for other bulletins and information on the new crop and hope to get more answers to questions that came up.

The Junior High basketball game against Dove Creek Friday night was called in the middle of the game after the electricity went off and will have to be rescheduled.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Butler of Santa Clara, California are the proud parents of a baby boy born Jan. 26. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 ounces and has been named Eric Thomas. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCracken of Summit Ridge and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Butler of Dolores.

Apparently a bad fuse was the cause of an electrical outage in the Dolores area Friday evening. The crews from Empire Electric found and replaced the burned out fuse on the high voltage side of the substation located in Lost Canyon. The electricity was off from 7 to 7:48 p.m. and affected the Dolores, Stoner, Lakeview and Summit Ridge areas.

Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Lee hosted the Saturday night pinochle club at their home on Jan. 27 with Mr. and Mr. Clyde Steel, Mr. and Mrs. James Porter, Mary Jane McRae and Callie Lofquist as their guests. Jim Porter and Callie Lofquist were the high point winners for the evening.

Frank Gonzales has been attending Engineering School in Durango for the past two weeks.

Tade Garbareno slipped on the ice at her home Friday evening and broke her ankle. She is a patient in Southwest Memorial Hospital at the present time and will probably be there for a while as it is reportedly a bad break.

Ed Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Butler, left on Tuesday, January 30, for Lincoln, Nebraska where he has accepted employment with the Extension Service.

Bill Fischer has been released from Southwest Memorial Hospital where he has been undergoing tests.

Cecil Taylor returned home on Wednesday evening after spending four days in Denver on Eastern Star business.

Vaughna McClain and Dotty Smith enjoyed lunch in Cortez on Tuesday and spent the afternoon shopping.

Jimmy McRae, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie McRae, has been elected student body president at Montezuma Cortez High School for the 1973-1974 school year.

Mrs. Agnes King is a patient in Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez following a fall on Sunday noon in which she suffered a broken hip.

Hazel Smith returned home on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 30 after spending over a month in Little Rock, Arkansas visiting with her son, Chipper Smith, and family. She also visited other relatives in surrounding states while she was gone.

Lawrence Ryan underwent surgery recently in Fruita Hospital but is now home and is reportedly doing fine.

Janet Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hill, enjoyed a slumber party at her home on Friday night in celebration of her 12th birthday.
