Jerry Koskie reports a fine meeting of over 50 interested farmers met last week to hear about prospects for growing sunflower crops here. They formed a committee which will write for other bulletins and information on the new crop and hope to get more answers to questions that came up.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Butler of Santa Clara, California are the proud parents of a baby boy born Jan. 26. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 ounces and has been named Eric Thomas. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCracken of Summit Ridge and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Butler of Dolores.

Apparently a bad fuse was the cause of an electrical outage in the Dolores area Friday evening. The crews from Empire Electric found and replaced the burned out fuse on the high voltage side of the substation located in Lost Canyon. The electricity was off from 7 to 7:48 p.m. and affected the Dolores, Stoner, Lakeview and Summit Ridge areas.

Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Lee hosted the Saturday night pinochle club at their home on Jan. 27 with Mr. and Mr. Clyde Steel, Mr. and Mrs. James Porter, Mary Jane McRae and Callie Lofquist as their guests. Jim Porter and Callie Lofquist were the high point winners for the evening.

Mrs. Agnes King is a patient in Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez following a fall on Sunday noon in which she suffered a broken hip.

Hazel Smith returned home on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 30 after spending over a month in Little Rock, Arkansas visiting with her son, Chipper Smith, and family. She also visited other relatives in surrounding states while she was gone.
Lawrence Ryan underwent surgery recently in Fruita Hospital but is now home and is reportedly doing fine.
