Archibeque wins league cup

Kirk Archibeque shoots a jumper Sunday for MIA Academy in the Georgian Cup championship. The Cortez native helped his team win its first-ever Georgian Cup with a double-double of 12 points and 21 rebounds, which is a Georgian Superleague record.

Kirk Archibeque has won another basketball championship.

MIA Academy (Tbilisi, Georgia) won the Georgian Cup on Sunday 79-69 over previous cup holder Siloviki Olympus.

It is the first time MIA Academy has won the Georgian Cup and became the ninth team to do so in Georgian Superleague history.

Archibeque was superb with a double-double of 12 points and a career high 21 rebounds, which is also a Superleague record.

MIA Academy finished as National League champions with an 8-2 record. Archibeque is third in league scoring at 20 points per game and second in rebounding with 12.5 boards per contest.

The Montezuma-Cortez graduate also claimed Eurobasket Player of the Week honors four times in 10 weeks.

Archibeque knows championships well. He helped SKS Polpharma-Pakmet win its first Polish Basketball League playoff cup in 2011 and was a key part of Montezuma-Cortez's boys basketball 4A state title team in 2002.

Kirk is the son of Bob and Vicki Archibeque.
