Seventh Street Elementary school students and Parent Teacher Organization celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday March 2 in honor of Read Across America.

Dove Creek Parent Teacher Organization participated in National Education Association’s Read Across America in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2.

For two days, PTO members dressed up like Cat and the Hat and like Thing 1 and Thing 2 while doing activities with the Seventh Street Elementary students. Preschool and kindergarten students were excited to complete their Horton Hears a Who and Thing 1 and Thing 2 puppets, then listen to Cat and the Hat read one of his very own stories. First grade through sixth grade had their own activities of drawing their favorite character and writing about why they liked that character. The students’ drawings and what they wrote are displayed on the PTO bulletin board at the school.

On day two, community members read to each class and students dressed up as their favorite character. Cody Alexander won first place, Sam Snyder won second place and Kyle Sharp won third place.

A special thank you goes out to community members: Mayor Dean Schlegel, Sheriff Jerry Martin, Colorado State Patrol officer Travis Randolph, Deputy Don Wilson, Commissioner Julie Kibel, retired librarian Larry Lloyd, high school Principal Ty Gray and Judge Dale Boyd.
