Tilling the Soil course for small ag producers
Today is the deadline to register for a Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center NX Level Tilling the Soil course that will begin on Saturday, Feb. 2. This year's class, with nine sessions total, will be offered in Mancos at the Public Library from Saturday, Feb. 2, 5:30 p.m., and ending on Saturday, April 13.
Participants will be provided with information, professional advice and tools to develop business skills and create plans to start new or grow existing agricultural operations.
Tuition is $280 for the entire nine session class that includes 36 hours of instruction, books and materials, plus five hours of individual time with a business advisor, or $50 per session (ask for an agenda). PCC president will speak at Business Club Luncheon
Higher education takes the spotlight at the Chamber of Commerce' Business Club Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at noon in the community room at First National Bank.
Pueblo Community College President Patty Erjavec and Norm Jones, the new Dean of Southwest Colorado Community College East and West Campuses will be our featured presenters.

Chamber seeks nominees for annual community awards
The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its annual awards to recognize leaders and businesses making significant contributions to the community.
Nominations are still being accepted and the awards will be presented at a ceremony in March. The Chamber needs the public's help to find individuals and businesses to join the ranks of the Chamber's "Best of the Best" in the following categories: Cortez Journal's Citizen of the Year; Dad & Daughter's Agribusiness of the Year; Empire Electric's Green Business of the Year; The Four Corners Character Council's Volunteer of the Year; Dolores State Bank's Unsung Hero Award.
Nominations need to include the nominee's name, address and phone number, the reason for the nomination and the name and phone number of the person making the nomination.
