Loads of people streamed in and out of the Dolores State Bank last week to wish Bill Nielson, 87, good luck in the future. Nielson recently retired as the Dolores State Bank Chairman. Nielson served on the board since the birth of the bank 54 years ago. The event was nice, refreshments were served as the community honored Nielson, who seemed pleased with the attention.

Nielson also made a special announcement at the event. He told everyone that he plans to write a book, compiling some of his stories that he is so famous for. I, for one, can't wait.

A television news crew was in Dolores this week and filmed a news story about the Dolores School District and the recent ban on the Confederate flag at the schools. The resulting news clip can be viewed on www.koat.com and a link can be found on the Dolores Star's Facebook page. Not everyone was pleased with the result, but it is still worth a look.

I am told by Susan Merillat that her salon Tangles has moved but is not gone from Dolores. She opened up her salon this summer next to the Flying Pig and has since moved to the old Intricut building, which is next to the former Dolores dentist office for Dr.Westerman.

Joe Scrivner, 1977 graduate of Dolores High School, purchased airline tickets for his mom and dad, Jeanne and Jerry Scrivner to spend Christmas in Atlanta, Georgia, with he and his triplet boys, Kolby, Zachery and Morgan. Joe also rented a vacation home in Big Canoe, a mountain development with several lodges near two very large lakes, golf courses and walking and horseback riding trails. One full day was spent in Atlanta at a huge aquarium.

Joe graduated from Dolores High School and now lives in Millbrook Ala, near Montgomery. The triplets will be graduating this year in Millbrook.

Jeanne and all enjoyed shopping at Macy's and Dillard's in Atlanta plus the wonderful restaurants to enjoy.

Joe is a finance director at Brewbaker Motors in Millbrook.
